The Brazilian Early Childhood Friendly Municipal Index (IMAPI) is the first attempt worldwide to capture the dimensions of NCF at the municipal level using routine information systems (Ref). The IMAPI (Índice Município Amigo da Primeira Infância) was developed following an 8-step methodology, including a highly participatory process with stakeholders and experts in Brazilian databases. IMAPI computed a large amount of municipal-level data derived from public databases in the critical ECD areas. The data from 31 nurturing care indicators are integrated into a single overall multidimensional score and five subscores corresponding to each dimension of the NCF to monitor the nurturing care environment for ECD. IMAPI scores are categorized as high, medium, and low based on tercile distributions and they are available in a user-friendly knowledge-based platform (www.imapi.org/en). Construct validity, as well as predictivity and concurrent validity (ref) of IMAPI, has confirmed its potential to detect inequities in nurturing care at the municipal level.
